“When are we going to start a Quilters’ Guild in Orillia?
An information meeting to assess interest was held at Regent Park United Church on November 21, 2001. Many quilters appeared and the new executive with Nancy C as president, Cathy W, vice president, Donna S, treasurer, Carolyn D, secretary, Clara T, membership was formed. In January 2002 our guild was born. We wanted to stay “small”, but our membership quickly grew to a high of 125, with a waiting list. We were still meeting in Regent Park United Church, the third Wednesday of the month, for 12 months of the year. A mission statement and Constitution was drafted and a logo was designed. Our Newsletter was published 4 times a year and workshops to create "Comfort Quilts" to be used in the oncology and dialysis areas of our hospital was the start of our Outreach Program.
Over the years our meetings have changed locations and our numbers have fluctuated. We now meet 10 months a year and our newsletter is sent via email every month we have a meeting. Our Outreach Program has grown and we now provide quilts, placemats and walker bags, to a large variety of places.
